Heavy rain associated with Hurricane Hilary is also expected to impact California and the Southwest starting Saturday and lasting through early next week, with peak impacts expected on Sunday and Monday.
As of Friday at 8:00 A.M., Hurricane Hilary remains a large and powerful Category 4 Hurricane barreling toward the Southwestern U.S. Continuous coverage has moved here.
Hurricane Hilary rapidly intensified into a Category 4 cyclone on Friday, and forecasters said that the hurricane's path means the storm could bring "significant" impacts to Southern California and the Southwest by the weekend and into the first part of next week.
According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), rapid intensification occurs when a tropical cyclone's maximum sustained winds increase by at least 35 mph in a 24-hour period.
"Rainfall impacts from Hilary within the Southwestern United States are expected to peak this weekend into Monday," the NHC said in an advisory. "Flash, urban and arroyo flooding is possible with the potential for significant impacts."
Ocean water temperatures off the coast of California remain cool, so influence should diminish the intensity of Hurricane Hilary if the forecast track brings the storm to the Golden State. What forecasters are keeping an eye on will be the abundant tropical moisture that could be flowing into California, Nevada and Arizona.

...or hopefully Murray will be back to where it was a few years ago.
On a serious note...the high winds are what I am worried about.
Hope everyone is prepared as best they can and hope everyone stays safe.

How much would a good soaking impact early runoff from the regular season if we get one? C'mon, I know you guys know this stuff!
I just have this sense that ...Loveland and Sweetwater are spilling in the next year....and Sutherland will go up too!

Hurricane Hilary just trumped that rule.

Time will tell of course, but Sweetwater was pretty certain Loveland will overtop.

Will be nice to have the lakes re-fill/top off, and those that didn't to do so. Small miracle for fishermen, huh?
All SD lakes to close Sun and Mon, just announced.

I'm hoping for some pretty stellar corvina fishing after this thing passes. Water hasn't been warm enough for a good spawn this year so hopefully that warm water and the rain trigger something. A little early though, usually they have a smaller second spawn in the fall anyways.

How warm does it need to be for them to spawn? Been over 70 for 2 months. 79 degrees in the back bay yesterday even after the water rolled

It's plenty warm enough right now, the issue was it wasn't back in March/April when the spawn normally occurs. Usually there is a smaller second spawn late September earlier October though. It's early, very early, but the rain + warm water should trigger something. As soon as any rain touches that water, those fish go nuts. They have the highest growth rates in brackish water (10ppt to be specific), as soon as freshwater enters their system their metabolism goes through the roof. University of Sonora did a study on them over a few months.

Had 2.7" in my rain gauge here in University City, it was at 1.1" at 5:40 pm. Got gusty at times. Some mist right now, no wind.
Always seem to sleep well at night when it is raining.
