I have noticed that when I send a PM, they often just sit in the outbox forever with changing to the sent messages list. This occurs whether replying to a message I received or starting a conversation.

I have deleted a few that were overcome by events (they had been in outbox for a couple of months) but have a couple sitting in my outbox now.

Is this behavior because it is waiting to be read by the recipient?

i think it sits in the outbox until the recipient reads it. i noticed messages sitting in the outbox too when i expected it to be in the sent folder. eventually the pm gets replied to, and the outbox is empty.

That’s correct. PM’s show up in the outbox until the recipient reads it.
