Talk about fishing one of the country's premier bass fisheries, Barrett Lake.

Trolling motor recommendations

Post by Shawnster »

Hey guys & gals,

I’m new to Barrett and bass fishing in general. We took a boat out this weekend and realized that a trolling motor would be key. As a beginner, I’m not looking to spend a fortune, but I want something that will work especially for reducing the need for an anchor. Do you have any recommendations for what specs I should be looking for, or any specific models good for Barrett and its boats? What about batteries? Also happy to buy one used if anyone has an extra!

Thanks, Shawn

You can get by with a 12V Tiller Steering. A low thrust gets the job done. Bring a piece of wood to help clamp on to the side of the boat so you can mount near the front of the boat. Like a 1 X 2 type of cut board. When I wanted less thrust and a constant on (shifting in and out of gear all the time in a drag), I use the reverse gears, as the prop is inefficient in reverse.

Look on offerup or Craigs.

Get the EZ Mount on Amazon... Makes it an easy setup on these rentals.
