The Bay - Mix Bag

Dave and I hit the Bay yesterday from 6am - 11:30am. Fishing in the slack and some of the incoming tide.

I get out here about 3 or 4 times a year. The only goal was to catch as many species as we could.

The bite was pretty steady all morning long. Lost count of the Spotties. They are some very aggressive lil bastards for sure. Caught about 8 Sandies (a couple of nice ones) and 2 Mackerel with these highlights...

Caught a few halibuts

Mines was slightly bigger but still not legal

Also caught a couple of Corvinas or White Sea bass? Which one is it?

And 5 croakers

So, we got (6) species total. Not bad.

If I may ask, is there a strategy to maximize the number of species caught or is it pretty random?

All random pretty much. We did not do anything different. Just tossing out 4in jigs with a slow retrieve or drift. But it does seem like different location hold different species. Like we always hook on to halibuts by the Fly Navy sign off the aircraft carriers. And on the opposite side by where the Coast Guard is where we always get the croakers.

And Corvina are routinely found in America's cup Harbour and the shoal s near Shelter island landing entrance

May I ask what jigheads and plastics you used? Thanks a lot.

1/4 oz jig head and 4 in. paddle tail or curltail. I think the color is called camo? The 3rd picture has a decent view of what I was tossing.
