Lower Otay - Bass fishing tips

Post by Mark_Nilsen »

Planning my first kayak trip to Lower Otay this Sunday, probably starting late morning.

I'll probably be fishing the southern end of the lake more, and maybe Harvey's Arm if the wind permits.

Anyone familiar with this area? Curious about typical depths, structure, and where bass tend to hold this time of year. Any tips would be appreciated!

I was thinking about fishing it Sunday Mark, but I am currently staying at Pio Pico campground just up the road, and it has been very windy, so be safe!

I've had pretty good luck between the boat dock and the buoy line down toward the dam. I like casting toward the shore with jigs. Small crankbaits are usually always productive, and top water down toward the dam if it isn't too windy.

I drove by the lake yesterday and the whole lake was whitecaps so I think I will forego it.
