Announcement (delete if it's not appropriate)

I've been told for over 20 years that I need both knees replaced, and lately it's become hard to even walk to my car. I have the first of 2 knee replacements scheduled for this Thursday, so I guess I won't be seeing you all out there on the water for a while!

Please continue to make posts so that I can live vicariously through you while I go through the recovery and physical therapy process. I'll miss you fine chaps.

Tight lines,
Dan

I have done both knees and it was life changing. I could not walk like you. Make sure to push thru the exercises and keep moving. The ice works wonders. I have the machine for the knee ice if you want to borrow it. Let me know!
I have not fished for a while, I have a few issues going on.

Maybe waiting 20 years was a smart move. Painful probably. Knee replacement is why more advanced than 20 even 10 years ago. Get well and back on your feet soon. Going to miss your posts and honest and informative words. Keep the site up to date on your progress.
Regards, Sam

Dan,
I knew the day would come when you would be having knee replacement surgery and it is finally here.
Just wanted to say I wish you the very best on the surgery and hope for a full speedy...well
it may not be speedy, but it will be worth it when you will be beating me walking up to
the top of the boat ramp after a nice day of fishing.
Here I am complaining recently about soreness in my right knee keeping me from fishing lately'
and yet you endured a hell of a lot more pain for a long long time and it never kept you from getting out there
and putting on endless bass fishing clinics in your tube.
Anyway....my best wishes to you and will be looking forward to seeing you back on the water when you recover.
....Vinny

My 85 year old Grandmother had one of her knees replaced last year. She was up and walking the the next day. She can still run circles around me. (she was also a marathon/ultramarathon runner for a few decades). You got this!

I wish you the best, my wife had both her knees replaced this summer. She’s back to normal now, the ice machine is a life saver. Helps with the swelling. The therapy is a must and you’ll be back at your passion soon.

Docs and rehab exercises can do wonders to get you back on the water. Best fishes to you.

Speedy recovery to you. I just had to take 2 months off of fishing due to a back surgery. When you are ready, if there are any Fridays or even Thursdays (I work the other mornings) that you could use a hand getting on the water, or with anything else, let me know. I would be glad to help where I can.

Jeff.

As Sammy said knee replacement has come along ways. My wife has one and is back doing jassercise and walking 5K's. All my friends that have gone through with replacement wish they would have done sooner. Good Luck and speedy recovery.

Good luck with the surgery. Like others are saying, do the PT. I didn't do mine properly when I was young and dumb and I still have problems 25 years later. I'm about to turn 43 and I'm sure I'll be in for a knee replacement around 50 unless they succeed with that new cartilage regrowth thing they're working on in time.

Have had both knees and my left shoulder done. You wont regret it once you heal up! As has been said, keep on top of the PT and home exercises. Also, stay on top of the pain. Don't be afraid to use the pain meds regularly, at least at first. Get ahead of the pain! Good luck!!

I talked my doctor into getting some pics of my knee surgery. At first he said you can see that online and I said but those aren't my knee. So he took my phone. Does look like online, but I know it is me.

Your post is completely appropriate, Dan. You are an important member of the SD fishing community. I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say we look forward to seeing you on the water and here in the near future. Side note - You turned me on to BFS fishing, I’ll do my best to post while you recover.

Sorry to hear the news of your knees. I had both of mine done at the same time. I think the doctor had a Lexus payment that he was behind on and needed money. He said I needed to do them both at the same time, even though they are better, my right one is not very good when I’m fishing I can’t stand more than say an hour and I’ve always done shore fishing. Hope to see you back posting soon. I know you tube a lot could be good exercise, you might be able to get some fishing in and work your knee at the same time after the surgery. Hope to see you back soon.
..I have to thank you for all the knowledge that you have shared with all of us. I’ve learned many things from you and I’ve enjoyed your post, if you have time or the will you still could post some of your knowledge. Keep you busy and keep you in the fishing spirit. Good luck.
