Mission Beach 5/23

Post by jwacky »

Well, good news and bad news this morning.

Good news: lots of sand crab beds and clean water! All of the crabs with roe are really big but I hooked one up anyway. Caught first sand crab fish of the year, the SNGF pictured below.

The bad news: I left my hooks at home after packing up last night and this guy bent the one I already had on my mine 😭

Anyone around that can donate a few? Ha! I’m by Tower 22…

If not I’ll just enjoy my morning on the beach 😎

Live updates… I found one in the bottom of my bag. Seems reasonably sharp, let’s see how long I can make it last. If if a fish swallows it, it’s lunch. Fair warning to any corbina lurking this forum 😂

Hey! It's a catch on a sandcrab, congrats! What size / style hook?

Size 4 mosquito hooks are my go to. I thought the crab might be a little big for the hook but it worked.

Just caught a small perch who gracefully returned my hook, no questions asked.

These guitarfish sure are loving the sand crabs. Second one of the day.

I’m calling it, though. Tide is getting low and not much surf. I’ll be back tomorrow, and better prepared!

Now, just catching a buzz. Caffeine buzz, that is. Watching the crowds roll in…

Yes sir, the first one was decently big. Didn’t fight much but was a slow drag to shore. The second was tiny and for a minute I thought might’ve been a corbina or even a small leopard shark once I saw some fins. He was thrashing around quite a bit, fun little fight.

Bag is all packed with ALL the gear for tomorrow, haha. Won’t make that mistake twice.
