Re: Fishy Trips Potential Next Week?
Yeah, The San Diego is usually booked in advance and that's the case now.
I almost didn't go, but decided I would be happy even with a "boat ride" if I didn't catch anything.
I like the Grande because I can rest in a bunk if I want to. But they stayed in port.
However, I also like Mission Belle, they went out with about a dozen paid tickets which is awesome load-wise.
I figured we would catch a few rat yellowtails. However, it turned out much better.
With a Bluefin bite down off Rosarito.
The fish would never stay on the boat, and waiting for them to swim by wasn't working as it sometimes does. However, the captain figured out a pattern of getting in front of a school and tossing large quantities of chum as they swam by. We would pick off 1-3 tuna per stop this way.
I got 3 to the boat out of six bites. The other three just never got stuck, maybe I should have let them eat it more. What stuck for me came over the rail.
Great Trip and 5 Star review for the crew.
The cook hooked as many as anybody and handed the rod off to people who hadn't caught a fish yet. Another guy was doing that too.
I gave two of my fish to people who didn't get one.
Lucked out on the light load and, of course, parking was easy because things are slow.
Lucked out that it was a reasonably "fishy" trip for a one-day ticket.
I'll post a picture later. Just a dude with three fish 2 30ish pound fish and one around 45.
The second pic is half a tuna belly grilled. My favorite part of the fish.

I’m glad to hear that, my buddy and I signed up for Mission Belle this Saturday actually. I’m hoping more people sign up so we can actually go!

I would guess they will go, Lundy. Pretty sure. The weekend would sell more tickets.
Go get 'em and have a nice trip. The fish were biting the 40-pound line with no problems. I think I even had a 50-pound Floro leader tied on for one fish.

I’ll post a report when I come back. This is my first pelagic trip for my birthday so I’ll be renting gear!

I came on here to wish you and your buddy good luck, Lundy! However, Mission Belle is showing only one spot sold. Is the right. Did you decide no to try?
Re: Fishy Trips Potential Next Week?
Just got off the Mission Belle. Landed 4 between 25 and a touch over 30, all fly line baits. 3 on the 70 year old jigstick and one on the 60 year old trueline. Tight lines and following seas my friends...
