Got to the lake at 4:40 am and was about 10th in line. I went around all the cars that stopped to go to concession to buy permits and straight to permit machine and had front row parking at the launch. Was on the puddle by 5;45 and kicked across and started throwing my finesse jigs. Got a couple clonelike dinks almost immediatly but my idea was to fish further up the Del Dios arm. By the time i kicked around the groups of kayakers and some float tubes the wind started blowing i adjusted my thinking an anchored up on the point about 30 yards away from shore. The fish I had caught were in 10 -15' of water so i started hammering the shore and swimming my jigs down the from shallow to deeper water. bites were slow but guys in kayaks were working the shore tightly with white spinnerbaits and were picking up fish. Both of these guys started throwing their baits right in between me and the shore from 30 yards away. they ended up crossing between me and the area i was trying to work with a jig and seemed unconcerned with anything or anyone in that area. I decided just to move on. I at that moment realized that the lake was teeming with float tubers and kayakers and may have outnumbered the fish. I moved around the point and once again anchored up now closer to shore and resumed throwing jigs towards the shore . I was tying on a new color jig when a rental boat full of anglers ripped between me and the shore he also seemed oblivious of he's surrounding ans was greetyed with a few choice words about his mother. I couldnt take this aggravation any longer so i was off the lake by 9;00. I would advise anyone who wants to fish Hodges come out early because there will be tons of fishing pressure and competition between shore anglers ,kayakers and tubers for fishable water since the lake is so small. Anglers have patience and and people have some respect for other people trying to fish and dont get to close to your fellow angler. Awareness is key. Tight lines

It’s sad when people are rude on the water especially, if they know better. I do think there is a number of people that maybe don’t fish that often or don’t know the rights and wrongs of fishing around others. It happens more often on weekends that I have experienced it but it’s still very frustrating. I think sometimes I have tried to be funny with guys who should know better but then another way letting them know you’re getting too close.
Something like “hey how’s it going? Are you joining me for lunch or something?” Most of the time they just say they’re sorry and kind of back away. Or “ hey buddy, I’m casting right there towards shore” in a more direct tone and they usually back off. One of the times that I will never forget that was kind of funny was as me and my buddy were fishing at Murray and this boat just kept getting closer and closer . I mean it just kept edging up and casting closer and closer. I was trying so hard not to lose my cool but I just got to the point where I’m gonna yell something like “ what the f dude,,,are you serious!” And before I could do it the guy says hey Vinny, I love reading your Murray reports on Sdfish and it always makes me laugh when you and Mcfish go back-and-forth at each other.” I just started laughing. That would have been ugly.
Anyway, hopefully you’ll have a good fishing up there and Hodges and look forward to some fun fishing reports.
