Mission Beach 1/31

Post by jwacky »

Fished the incoming and then outgoing high tide for a bit this morning, from 6:30 until around 9:00. Seemed like the tide was coming in even farther than predicted and the surf was strong, even if not particularly large. Swirling currents were moving my line everywhere including a few gnarly tangles 😡

That said, I shortened my leader and stuck it out, and grinded out a 7 perch session. All medium size except for one dink. I caught two early on, and then finished with the remaining 5 in the last 45 minutes or so. I’ll start with a shorter leader and heavier sinker if I get out again this weekend to spare myself some of the frustration.

Mussels were the bait of the day, and one perch was caught on lugworms.

As @Perch killer Bill predicted in the north county thread, crowds were relatively large with this beautiful weather we’re getting, although it’s pretty much a non issue when fishing with the sunrise. I bet it’s crowded for the rest of the day.
