South Bay 1/19

Post by Osidecoffee »

After hearing and seeing plenty of South SD bay stories from you all, I finally found a day to get my float tube down there. Went ahead and launched from J Street marina, and it wasn’t long before the action was on. Drifted all around, and worked my way north through the 2 main channels and found some quality spotties all over. It was awesome to put my fish finder to use, and to test out the map on my Humminbird Helix 5. It’s always nice when the main channels are right where they’re supposed to be :D .

Launched at 7am and made it back at around noon or so, and got about 20 spotties. I was expecting to have a lot of success on my 2 lighter setups, but my M and MH setups ended up getting 90% of the action. The hot bait of the day was a tie between a black and gold stupid tube that my buddy BigMoneyJonah pours, and a 12-15 ft deep diving brown crankbait. I brought out the deep diver to test and see how it fishes on my MH casting setup. Within 2-3 casts I got my first fish on it and it cleaned up in the 10 ft deep grass flats.

I felt like there was a good number of fish in the 12-14” range, and the best was a healthy 15”. It was a great first day down there, and I look forward to getting down there more often!
