Mission Beach 11/30

Fished north Mission Beach this morning with the (rapidly) outgoing tide from 6:30 to almost 9:00. It went out QUICK!

Caught the usual perch of varying sizes, 8-10 total, all of them on mussels. Mostly on the smaller side, but a few in the 9”-12” range. It’s fun to get a “big” bite on them, but then a tinge of sadness realizing it’s still perch and not a summertime corbina or croaker. But, fish is fish! It’s interesting to see the catch change as the months go by.

Clean water, minimal grass/kelp aside from a couple large clumps. One particularly large clump snagged my line and I had to cut it, but it could’ve been avoided if I’d just have had a bit more patience as I was waiting for it to float by. I swear, fish hooks are magnets for kelp and it’ll defy physics to find lines and hooks in the water!

I imagine that’s it for me for a couple weeks as the king tides come in. The beaches are still generally flattened from last month’s tide so I would imagine December’s king tide is going to be even messier. You might find me enjoying a coffee on the boardwalk watching the chaos 😂
