Mission Beach 11/22

Nothing out of the ordinary to report from Mission Beach this morning. Pretty clean water, little bit of a current as the morning high tide came in, very minor grass/kelp that mostly came off the line as it hit it.

6:30-9:00ish yielded 6 or so perch. Slower day than previous outings but the perch that were biting were large. Some of them were coming in with noticeably yellow fins, which a quick google search tells me that they were males trying to look attractive to potential mates ahead of the spawning season. They looked pretty silly with a hook coming out of their mouth but good luck to them and their future offspring 😂

Mussels were the bait of the day yet again and was being consistently bitten and/or taken until 8:30, when the bite absolutely died. Lots of really deep hook-sets today, unsure why. I was able to free the hooks but the perch were aggressively swallowing the entire bait or not going for it at all.

I really wish I'd gotten on to surf fishing earlier in my life, ha! I've always loved the beach and I've always loved fishing, but it never really occurred to me that the two could be combined until a camping trip earlier in the year. I brought a pole and some squid and tossed it in the ocean to see what'd happen. The pace will inevitably slow down as most things do in life, but for now, I'm enjoying making up for lost time, observing patters and behaviors, tides, different baits, etc. I'm a tinkerer, I like trying different things all the time :)
