You ask a Padres fan who their rival is, and they will say the Dodgers before you finish asking the question. You ask a Dodgera fan who their rivals are, and they will say the Giants before you finish asking the question. You ask a Giants fan who their rivals are and they will say the Dodgers before you finish asking the question.

A rivalry can't be one way no matter how hard you try.

For example, this thread was about giving rhe Padres credit for their pickleball championship, and a Padre fan has to inject comments about the Dodgers. They live in their heads rent free.
