Lake Hodges: Last Week in the Season

Hey all!
I did make it out on the last weekend at Hodges for the season. I was surprised to see a good number of people at the gate at opening. I had heard that it was slow lately but had to get out one more time. I got my first bite within 5 minutes of fishing on a small Rapala Crank. I chunky 1.5lb fish. It is on! Then it slowed down. That one was my only crank bite of the day. I did get a massive blowup on the jig as I pulled it up out of the water and the fish exploded up out of the water. So exciting! I did end up getting 2 more bites on the jig before leaving at 11am. Both were smaller fish that came off at the boat.
I did recently hear about an organization that wants to raise the water level at Lake Hodges. They bring up the point that lowering the lake has caused invasive grasses to grow where the lake would normally be and substantially raised the risk for catastrophic wildfires in the area. Here is the link if you are interested.
Check out the video for more details.
Cheers!
