Pacific Beach Update

Got out Thursday am for a short session & to check for sand crabs under the pier. Lots and lots, micros to small; gathered up a bunch with roe & a few softies. Another close-by angler mentioned a lot of crab beds appeared at low tide a few days earlier. Tide was only about 1' incoming. Water felt cooler, like around 68-69. For about an hour the bite was just nibblers, just amazing how the perch thieves are able to surgically pick off the roe. Tide around 2' by 7 am and bite picked up. Alternating baits between crabs, clam & mussel meat, picked off 7 perch in an hour, mostly hand sizers but a 10 and a 11+ in the mix, the latter two on mussel. Did not see any corbina action in the shallows nor had any real big hits from croakers or beans. Optimistic they'll show up again soon for a good Fall run.

My last Surf Fishing Trip I saw and eventually talked to a Fisherman that was just killing the small Perch. His trick : A number 8 treble hook with one hook set into the bottom of the Crab. I think at one point he hooked 6 in a row. He kept every one in a little Insulated Bag, thrown over his shoulder. In and out in an Hour. If you want to hook those Bait Stealers, it is possible.
