8/1-SD River Fun from Shore

Decided to skip a trip to the Lake of D & K due to hot weather. Oh course I was bored after my coffee and biscotti and kept bouncing the idea that maybe I could just head down to the SD River or Murray and fish from shore for couple hours before it gets too hot. Finally I grabbed 2 rods and a handful of tackle and headed to the river and did not get down there till around 7:30a.m. It was overcast and then sunny just after 8 and knew it was going to get hot soon. Anyway, I mostly just had plastics and a few hard baits which I started tossing at first. Then saw a couple flukes were mixed in one of the worm wraps and put one on. It a little bit I thought I snagged on an underwater branch but it pulled back. That bass went just over 4lbs.
It was getting hot so I started working worms and just felt a little tap as my line started to move to the right. I immediately set the hook and the bass jumped and knew this was not going to be easy. Where I was on shore I only had a little narrow area in front of me to land a bass as there are stick-ups on each side of you in the water. This one bolted straight to the tulles, then back over to dig into some underwater branches. I was so lucky as I was able to gradually straighten her out in front of me and landed her. This bass weighed 6.25lbs and she was fighting even when I took the hook out. Only got those 2 bites and I am so glad I decided to rough it from shore for a few hours rather than stay and home and wish that I went fishing. :-)

Today I was in a hurry in the morning and tried to consolidate tackle quickly so things were pretty light, but it sure is different when you fish from shore. Standing and trying to cast in tight spots and then realizing that a lot of the baits I normally bring to the river were left at home. My problem is that if I planned to fish from shore, I would probably take so much tackle that I think I would need that I would need a cart or wheelbarrow to haul all of it...ha ha It was something definitely different, especially walking over things and standing the whole time but I had fun.
Anyway....Hats off to you and all the guys who shore pound as it is not easy.
Tight lines always :-)

Twin Pigs, way to Friday! I spent the day under a 40 year old Boat trailer stripping and replacing trailer lights…. Not as much fun as I remember.

You are right...I bring a full compliment. Three different boxes with hard baits, spinners and jigs, and plastic setups (hooks of 40 types, lots of assorted weights, and a few plastics) and then the rest of the backpack is jammed with 2 extra rods, and every worm i have ever caught a fish on...and maybe, if there is room, a fig bar and a bottle of water.

And...every time I start with whatever I just know will work...surface, crank, spinner, jig and throw it until my arms are tired, and then I put a weightless texas worm on for most of the rest of the time. So, if you are keeping score, that would be 2 baits that would have fit in my shirt pocket...

I may never learn...and that is ok!

But @Mcfish It was stressful being on shore worrying that a crazed homeless guy would want some money from me or try to borrow one of my rods. Actually 2 times different guys came up to me and thankfully they just wanted to see how the fishing was.
Also stressful was that each bass tried like crazy to get wrapped up in the stick-ups and it was scary knowing that at any second they could come unbuttoned and I would have a post on the ones that got away.
Also stressful that both bass shook like crazy while I was holding them. In fact right before the pics the first bass shook so hard it actually came out of my hands and I had to quickly jump down to the waters edge to keep her from getting away.
And also I had to stand the whole time (even though I was not there long)...ha ha
I guessing you still don't feel sorry for me......Ok I must admit catching those bass made it all worth it. :-)

Catching a four and a six is worth risking a visit from those two Deliverance guys.

“Ouch!”
That quote was so funny I almost choked on my coffee, from laughing when I read it. Now you have me thinking maybe I need to upgrade my protection possessions if I fish from shore down there again. :-)

No matter what people say luck does play a role at times. I honestly was very lucky yesterday as I only got two bites and lucky to land those bass where I was fishing.

As I read each of VB’s daily reports I am more certain he sold his soul to the fisherman devil 🤔

Thats insane. You have invented your own level. Everybody thinks they're good at bass fishing. You are.

Seriously, very few people catch 4s and 6s at the percentage rate per fishing hours that you do, and if you factor in the lack of fancy gear and the latest bass circles secret chatter intel, no one even comes close.

They will say they do, but they don't.

Respect it.

I saw Vinny catch a 4lber just by winking at a mud puddle. It jumped right into his hand.
