Been here a few times not targeting bass though...
Has anybody been here recently? Luck? Recommendations?
Thank you.

My wife's uncle caught the blueest bass i ever seen using a large night crawler across the lake from the restaurant on the point at kitchen cove. It's actually the only bass I've first hand seen caught out of the lake. It was nice maybe just under 4#

Go look at mattlures galleries on his website. Any pic that has tulles with waders or pine trees in the back is cuyamaca.

I’ve always wanted to give that place time for bass, never have. I fished it a bunch over the years for bass but not consistently. Never had quantity or any jumbos. I know guys that do well but they are religiously hitting it when it’s biting. Many trips in a short time frame. You’re blessed if you can pull a bag out of there…. Definitely lower numbers but chances at a biggun.
I’ve heard of good frog bites before up there. Also a lot of sight fishing when they are bedded up or staging.

I have not been up there in probably 3-4 years and all I remember is there are a lot of carp there and they move across the top of the water so I finally realized they were not bass. I ended up with one bite and landed about a 2 1/2 pound bass on a senko right before I left.

A couple of years ago, I was baiting and waiting for trout with my twin boys. I watched a trout fisherman pull in an 11.2 bass on a light spinning rod. He was rainbow fishing with nightcrawlers.
I have fished it for bass in the past without much success, but I know they are in there and there are definitely some trout fed big ones.

Only time I've caught bass out of there was during spawning season which doesn't require much skill. I'm betting if you can get your hands on a topography map of the lake and find where the rock piles are you would have better luck, maybe even hook one of those 50lb sturgeon I've seen airborne there

In years of high water, the south end has been very good to me. I caught my largest personal best at Cuyamaca, but it was way back at the end of June in 2009. I caught a 12 lb bass on a Senko just as a thunderstorm began. It was possible back in those days, to catch numbers and quality, but you had to be patient and be able to wade through the thick salad that generally covers that end of the lake in the summertime.

Back when they drained it (I walked it), then filled it back up I had the lake record! Yep that's right 3 1/2 lbs. Lasted for about a week.
