Worked out a family fishing day 7/20

Tried a different approach to Barrett—family outing. It worked!

Problem statement: we were a small group on Sunday with varied interests — me and Theo like both fishing and catching, my other son Julian gets bored fishing but likes catching, Theo’s buddy is a “spirited” 9 year old who likes to screw around and also catch fish, while my gf likes to spend time with us, chill, and read, but is not into fishing. But we all like to spend time outside.

So me and Theo selfishly talked them into joining us at Barrett with the promise of “beach time” and not fishing the entire time. We got the beach time, but still fished the whole time. Sue me… I’m addicted haha.

I used Bassquatch to ferry us over one at a time to a nice accessible shoreline where Annie could chill and the boys could explore, play, fish, and watch for snakes. I’d take them out in turns to fish, but frankly, the shore fishing was great and there is always something fun and special about hiking around and fishing. Sight fishing was in play as well, and all the boys caught over 10 each. My fish of the day was 4.4 on a small topwater popper in the sticks.

It wasn’t a 50 fish day for anyone, but the good times and unique Barrett experience easily made up for it!

Side note: water dropped significantly, dock changed position, and I noticed a lot more fry and fingerlings than I have in previous weeks!

How do you like that prop on your trolling motor? Thought about trying one.

It seems to have some pop! Saw them scooting around pretty darn fast a couple of weeks ago.

The new prop is officially tested and approved. It’s surprisingly awesome. I’m getting a speed increase of 1 to 1.5 mph, with much better battery efficiency and negligible impact to torque. The only downside is that it definitely picks up more weeds than traditional props do. I found myself pulling out weeds 3x more than normal—too soon to tell whether that will get old or not.

It’s an $8 RC plane propeller!

Here’s the one I’ve tested. I have the 10x8 as well which I plan to test out next time!

P.s. I had to McIver a pin and some washers to install (OEM TM pin and washer will not fit these) but it is simple

Thanks for the info. Have you hit many branches? I would definitely use in other lakes.

I definitely hit some stick ups, but no solid branches. Low confidence that it would survive a major collision. Proper spare on hand if needed :)
