Yahoo Parking

To the two yahoo’s that parked side by side just past the dock and wiped out yak launching and at least 3 more spaces to park and enjoy that lower beach area, pull your heads out and think of others. I don’t usually park there either, it was just simply a selfish bonehead move. Ok, rant over.

Yea I agree!

But it was the stupid driver of that big ass white SUV that was blocking the rest of the pathway!

I suggest they should put red cones or some other items on that side of the rock wall.

That driver of that white vehicle might have been with his son I’m not 100% sure but we were forced to park up the hill and think we saw him just before they left dock.

We almost left him a “nice” note but life’s too short.

The inconsiderateness of people at Barrett is just next level this season. I don't know if it's like this at all freshwater fisheries now or specific to Barrett but it's exhausting.

The way people park and the way a huge portion of kayakers just roll up within literally spitting distance of your boat and fish on top of you. In the old days, fishermen would go off on you for being 100+ feet away and they'd be absolutely right to do so. When I'm fishing alone I'll still say something if it's truly obnoxious but try to give them the benefit of the doubt and be polite about it. It's almost always clear that they are just oblivious about respecting the space of others.

I know that there was a note left on the vehicles telling them not to park that way in the future. As far as Im concerned that should be parking for disabled/handicap people only. Not even yak/tube launchers, go to pigs like everyone else. Just my opinion......

The excitement of fishing Barrett sometimes makes people not think straight. We are ALL very lucky to experience that place, I invited the Council members who voted yes to override the mayor's veto to come experience Barrett. If I can get (some of) them out there they will be hooked for life........like we are!

Great idea Tommy, I hope they take you up on that.

Hand each one of them a rod and reel, loaded with a barbless bait and fish from the dock to get excited especially if they’re not fisherman’s.

Make a single exemption if they don’t possess a fishing license.

The idea is to get them hooked (yes, pun was intended).

Yahoo here.
That was my white SUV that blocked the road. Total mistake, I apologize. This was our first Barrett trip to fish this year.
I hunt waterfowl here often during the winter and last time I was here (February for the youth hunt), the lake was much lower and there was no road beyond where I parked. It was a "prime" parking spot during hunting season. In my half-asleep state, I just pulled in there not thinking twice.
Again, I apologize.

When we returned to the dock around lunch to take a break, I saw that Laurie left me a note asking not to block the road, that's when it all clicked. I promptly moved my car to the side.

And from what i could tell other cars were then able to get in. Including the folks (yahoos?) who probably bought a kayak/shore spot and decided to commandeer a boat later in the afternoon (what are our collective thoughts on this practice? Personally, I could care less, unless said people were mistreating and trashing the boats).

Anyway- quick report:
My son and I caught 69 fish total.
We started in Hauser back in the trees and got some small clones going on the senko to start. Topwater was pretty slow but got a few. My son got some bluegills and nice bass on bfs gear- small flukes and shad fry.

The sun came up and the bite slowed so we moved to deeper, rocky areas and got back on em with jigs, t-rigs, and free rigs.
These fish were better quality and fought hard. Not as many skinny, pale ones and a surprising number of bass that were not sore lipped, scarred, or full of senkos/worms.
Lots of fish caught at and around the dock as well.
Hope to get out there again soon. Barrett is a treasure and I hope we don't lose it. I would love for my son to enjoy it for many years to come.

Good on you Dnice to man up and admit the error. My original post was more towards the two guys side by side I saw at 4:30am that blocked the lower beach. Almost 100% positive they were yakkers that were staging just off the beach they effectively blocked. I didn’t even notice your rig when we bolted at 9. Good catch report too. We have concentrated on those deeper fish off the rocky steeps all season. They seem to be collectively bigger and healthier.

3 cars once again lined up awkwardly parked on the bottom area to the point you'd nearly have to drive through the water to get past them (and cars had already parked past where the worst parked car was). I never park down there anyway but still just so inconsiderate of people.

And shout out to the dudes in the tandem kayak rolling up and fishing very literally not even a rod's length away from me. Just so cool. Congrats on your 1 fish while they were jumping in my boat just like they have almost every single session. I must have just been lucky again.
