Pacific Beach 6/24

Hadn't been out to PB in almost a month so gave it a look this AM. South of pier half way to LG station; what a mess of junk on the beach and in the water. If didn't get bit in 3-4 minutes, line loaded up with grass/lettuce. Lots of sand crabs though everywhere. One perchie and after half hour, decided to check out north of the pier. Spotted a nice hole about 100 yds up. Couldn't miss on the perch, another 9 next 1.5 hours, all in 7 - 9" range. Only non perch species were 2 dinner plate size rays, not what I was seeking. Tossed some mussel & plastics as well but no interest. Corbina still MIA but summer is still early. Fun session none the less.

Hate the salad, but love that beach.. Perchies are better than no perchies… I know you’ll get your share of the corbina when they show..

Just a quick thought. I don’t know what the conditions were. Generally a lot of weeds come with swell. If it was after the swell and relatively calm, you can throw a Sand Crab under a Bobber. Now before you start laughing, the Bobber floats with the weeds and you give it the best drift you can. We get a lot of Surf Fish this way out of Cove areas that have floating grass all over. Sure sometimes you only get 15 seconds, but if fish are in there, that’s all you need. I used to fly line them, but I saw a guy off the rocks catching Opaleye this way and I just transferred it over to the sand. Just something to try when all else fails. The bites are usually vicious.
