Good morning,
I’m trying to start planning a fly fishing trip for next spring. I’m extremely interested in Baja sky islands and want to explore San Pedro martir.

1. Has anyone fly fished there recently?

2. Where did you find the fish.

3. Setup?

Thanks everyone!

You may want to reach out to member Tailingloop or give a call to Stroud tackle in San Diego . Believe they would have some recent intel particularly on the gear used down that way . Good luck !

I used to live at the base of the San Pedro Martirs. My family has a 10,000 acre guest ranch, Meling Ranch i have fished every stream many times. Trout were native to only the San Rafael river. My great uncles a long with James Utt transplanted the Nelson Rainbows into La Grulla, San Antonio, La Zanja, Portero and our creek, San Jose. This was in the early 30's.
It is very difficult to find these streams and most of them are on Ehijo land which is private. I recommend contacting Meling Ranch to arrange a guided pack trip. They are on FB.

The best stream to fish is the San Antonio. If you walk up about 8 miles you will have 200 fish days..Please use barbless hooks. They love attractors like humpys, royal Wolff's, etc.
If you hike up far enough you will come to a 80-100 foot waterfall that has a super deep pool. That's where, in 1989 I caught the unofficial world record Nelson. 19". Most of the fish will be in the 4-8" range with a few reaching 12".

Some of my best memories in life are catching and releasing these beautiful trout.
