5/25 Grom Day + Dad Bass Report

Add another Lake Barrett adventure to the family memory books! It went off for me and my boys. Barrett is one of my favorite places to fish and although its a full send from LA county it is so freaking worth it. Was stoked that we had mild weather in the mid 70's for Barrett standards and experienced relatively light crowds which made it easy to get into most of my favorite zones and have it all to ourselves.
We pretty much caught them everywhere we stopped and picked away at them until they stopped biting then moved to a new zone - rinse & repeat. We started in Pine and worked through until noon then made the move to Hauser for the remainder of the day. Plan of attack was to power pole down shallow and I had the groms fishing uphill with neko rigs & soft stickbaits. Capt. Dad got his fair share of "Dad Bass" up to 5lbs cover hacking with the 1/2oz GP slobberknocker, black swamp lord poppin frog, and then mop up in heavy cover with a 1/2oz GP Warbaits jig. It was pretty rad to watch fish do backflips for the frog and catch em flippin a jig on 65lb straight braid with a heavy flippin stick! Northerns rule. Caught onto a little deal flipping a jig at trees that surrounded the outer edges of bluegill beds for some of the better fish in the late afternoon at Hauser. It was also rad to watch the boys fish hard and catch em all on their own. Proud & stoked Dad here! Hoping to get another trip in on my kayak solo cholo to get my fill.
