Surprise catch at the Murr 5/27

Post by Dannicus »

Had a great 28 fish day today at the Murr. Almost all fish came courtesy of a BFS crankbait. Most of the bass were healthy in the 2+ pound range with 2 of them over 3 lbs.

However the biggest surprise of the day was a nice slab crappie. I fish Murray an average of 3 days per week for the last 3 years and this is my first crappie ever there. Other guys have told me they've caught them, but I was starting to think they were pulling my leg lol.

Anyway it was a RAD day.

Very nice Crappie!!!! Congratulations!
I think I fished Murray for close to 30 years before I caught a Crappie on a small spoon while fishing for bass in deep water vertical jigging. And it wasn’t till probably about five years ago that I caught a handful more. Always a big surprise when I did and I bet you were surprised to see it also. Anyway, that looks like a nice fat one, which makes it even better. Great job out there Dan.

Thanks Vinny. Today Otay, tomorrow one last day at Murray, then it's off to Arizona for a month on vacation. I'll let you guys know how the fishing is. First up will be the Verde Valley river, which runs right through our RV resort.

If you have a month and are so inclined, Alamo is another great lake albeit very remote. And its a camp or motorhome only. They do have 4 small cabins but they book up weeks or months in advance. The fishing can be stellar. Decades ago the catch rate was Barrett-like but fluctuating water levels have made it more like our normal lakes which you know can be stellar at times. SD tackle works too and its loaded with fish.
