5/6- SD River morning session

Post by VinnyBass »

The last time I went to the SD River(4/23), I saw lots of floating dead bass and only got one bite and was very lucky to even catch a micro bass.
This morning did not see any dead fish which was nice. I covered a lot of water, first tossing a fluke and a few other reaction baits and no takers. It always seems that most of the time I just waste time in the morning with casting practice and then late morning I usually get bites etc. Talked to 2 other guys who got there at daybreak and they had nothing yet either. It was now around 10:30 and sure enough got bit and lost the fish deep in the stick-ups. A little while later I lost another bass who wrapped me up on a branch and came unbuttoned. At least this was so action, but you do not get that many opportunities at the river so it is kind of a bummer. Finally, deep in cover something sucked in my Yamamoto DT grub and I was able to land a 3.25lb bass. I worked other baits and got tapped a few times on a 7" worm, guessing the bass were small as nothing solid to set the hook on. I ended up with 3 bass and what was funny was each bass got smaller as if they were giving me a signal it's time to go home....ha ha

A nice greeting waiting for me when I came home. :-)

Yeah, I forgot about the Banjo Minnow, but first I have to try one of these lures I got from @Mcfish. He told
me I don't even have to work it and to just cast it out there and wait for a bass to hit it.

Yeah, I forgot about the Banjo Minnow....
Banjo Minnow
Helicopter Lure
Flying Lure

Imagine being forced to fish with only those 3 baits.

That would be absolutely crazy !
I never owned any of those, but I imagine the banjo minnow might be the one I would stick with for a long time…. Ha ha :-)
