Barrett Lake April 26 report

Hi all,
Continuing a proper weekend of fishing, I got to go to Lake Barrett today as part of charity fundraiser for Cast Hope. Weather looked like it could be any combination of things at 0400. Turns out it was. Drizzled on the way down. We got let in around 0530 and made our way out. Water temp was at 63 F, the air was about 50F. Light variable wind.
Barrett didn't disappoint though. I think I got to my first spot about 0600 and after desperately trying to make the popper work, I gave up and threw the usual crankbait. Instantly I was on a fish. Played around with the crankbait (pictured) and mixed it up with two sizes of jerkbait ( Vision 110 and X70) . Those worked just fine all day long, but I had a mission to practice jigs and to practice plastics. @pourboy hooked me up with some jigs ( mentioned on another thread, the bitsy bugs ) and some tips and @El_prowler_619 hooked me up with some lizards and gave me a demo recently too. Texas rig lizards in any color worked fine all day. The jigs were pumpkin and I didn't get any on the black and blue, but that may have been me. Anyway, lake looks good, it's down a bit from last fall, maybe 2-3 feet from what I remember. Fish look great, very healthy and aggressive. Most of the fish were in the 2 pound range and the big one for the day was 3 pounds 8 ounces, only one angry little fish. The weather was all over the place. It ranged from pleasant but cool to miserable with steady cold wind, but the fish kept the action going. Got done at the right time, because on my way home the rain arrived.
Should be a good season. See you all out there.
