4/23-Lucky and Thankful

I was a little emotional as it would have been my fathers birthday today and the reason I went fishing. My father took me fishing almost every weekend when I was growing up. I learned so much aboutfishing and always loved out fishing outings. I try to get out and fish each year on his birthday.
So I hit the SD river yesterday morning for a bit and immediately noticed a few dead fish along the edge. Did not pay much attention at first and then as I started fishing I saw more and more dead fish....almost all of them were bass. Not a good sign at all. Probably not a mass kill off, but I counted at least 25 of them and only 1 carp. I guess the carp are like the cockroaches of the river and are pretty indestructible.Called a buddy and he said him and his friend saw lots to dead fish a few days ago and did not get a bite. Not prepared to fish for carp(ha ha) I continued on and somehow I got very very LUCKY and on my only bite of the morning, I managed to pull in a mini bass. I immediately thanked my father in spirit, just in case he had anything to do with it and headed home.
Not a great fishing day, but glad I went. :-)

VinnyBass, you did a good job honoring your dad's memory. It's interesting how 1 trip as a kid could mold someone's life style, like it seems it did with you.

Healthy looking little guy! Dead bass probably choked on big plastic craw baits!

Did you need help reeling it in? They're probably draining funky water from the bottom of El Cap. Your Dad would be proud that you stuck to fishing! Many a kid has been saved by fishing....Me!

Well, your Father did it right and gave you a life long passion=D

With all the homeless, who knows what could be in the water?

Bummer about the dead fish Vinny, but glad you got to honor your pops. I lost mine 30 years ago and not a day goes by that I don't remember him and something he taught me.

Hugs

Vinny has to stop using those Junebug colored craws. So irresistible to fish they can't leave them alone, even when motionless on the bottom.

Thanks Dan.
My father passed about the same time.....29 years ago. I don't think I ever said no to him when he asked if I
want to go fishing. Lots of great memories you probably have also with your father. :-)
