Rare freshwater outing for me. I need to use the boat at least a few times a year, just to keep it from rotting. Heck the last time the cover was off was a couple of months ago so I could suck the gas out of it before it went bad and run it through the 4 runner. I know sad=/
Hit up El Cap on Monday with my Son. Got there around 6:45 (a little late). Ran over to the bank across from the road in the dam arm, and started just passed where the island used to be and ran toward the dam with the wind at our backs. Threw Spinnerbaits, vibrating jigs, underspin and crankbaits at a pretty good clip trying to cover some ground before the sun came up, slowing down at every good looking rockpile. Worked that until the sun showed over the mountains. All for just missed fish on a spinnerbait (my Son). It was not a case of the area, as you all know that is a good part of the lake.
We then headed back as far as we could to the North End. Has anyone seen that Easy Up frame in the end of the arm starting to come out of the water? Lake is getting low, but nothing like it was in early spring of 1991 before Miracle March. The lake defiantly has not been this low in some time, as there are not any stickup in the water. The ones I saw were in the water about 8 feet ago.
Started at the last cove on the East side of the arm running the bank South, throwing small crankbaits. a hundred yards past where we started we picked up a couple crankbait fish on the first set of good rockpiles that you come to. Then we could not get bit to save our life. The area between the first rockpiles and just past the first rocky point you come to, was just loaded with fish between 3 and 12 feet, so we stuck at it and did not move again. The bite picked up real good around 10. Then we started getting them on small plastics, using a finesse Carolina Rig/ Bruiser Splitshot Rig. Kind of a hybrid deal. Put a dozen of so nice 1.5 - 2 lb. clones in the boat, a dink and a 3.5ish, plus a nice one somewhere over the 4 pound range, and definitely not 5, Haha (shown in the photo/ no scale on board). We farmed 5.
Water was 59 in the morning and 64 when we headed out. Breezy in the morning, died down around 8ish and did not pick back up until 11ish. Not bad for El Cap. Bluebird Day, wish it was overcast like today. Love these heavy marine layer days on the lakes.
Fun day for sure, but the boat is the happiest of all.
Thanks to all the folks that post on here, especially the regulars! Love reading them=D

Noiiiice dude!! Solid looking bass there. I've been fishing El Cap since I came here in the Navy in 1984, and never fished all the way back. One of the few downsides of only fishing in a float tube lol.
