Washed the skunk and new species

It's probably been 4 months since I caught a fish, but I've kept trying. Sunday I was using a slow pitch jig for not it's intended use, throwing it way out, letting it sink, then slowly dragging and popping off the bottom. Hooked up what I thought would be a small spotty or small hali, ended up being 2 lizard fish that went for the same jig! That was my first ever double hookup like that, and a new species for me. Threw a different jig with the same technique and got another lizard fish. I must've stumbled on a nursery or something lol, I was watching them chase my jig up to the surface. Tied on a gulp shrimp on a jig head, same technique of dragging and popping, got a decent spottie. Those were the only 4 for the day, but it felt good finally feeling that tug again. I tried to turn the lizard fish into a halibut but it wasn't meant to be, and there was a marathon or something down the road so I called it around 10:30.

Nice double hook up!! I've caught 108 species of fish in Southern Calif but never a lizard fish for some reason.

It was definitely a nice surprise when I pulled them up! They must have been stacked up on the sand in that spot, because I watched a bunch more chase it up and miss. Anyone familiar with the bay can probably figure out where by the pics.

They used to be a real pest in Alamitos Bay, but I haven't seen one in a couple of years... Must be a cycle type thing... Congrats on the double and 1st.... And breaking the skunk...

Awesome to see lizard back. Epic hali candies right there. Some of the best bait for big butts

That's exactly what I was thinking when I brought them up! Unfortunately, I couldn't make that happen. I don't know if it was the outgoing tide at the time and I just couldn't reach them because of low water, but I'm gonna keep trying! I'm tethered to the shore not having a boat or kayak or even a tube
