Drizzly low tide today. Found a good rip and sent a soft shell to the head for this fat croaker.

Good job Mike! Consistently scoring on the winter softshells!

Found another willing soft shell crab eater this afternoon. Windy and cold but surprisingly only a few weeds.

I found a larger crab with eggs, cut it in half and used the egg side to hook this croaker this morning.

I'm impressed (and a bit envious) of your ability to find those crabs. Still not showing at SD beaches, if any, just micros that I'm aware of.

I use a homemade rake to sift the sand with each out going wave. Rod in my left hand, hold on to rake with my right and kick sand into it (I wear Shimano EVA sandals).

I found a thumb-sized soft shell yesterday and it took about 15mins for this slender croaker to find it. Dolphins were in the waves and I’m convinced they were hunting and not just surfing for fun.

In 15 minutes, perch stealers will find my softies before a nice bean or croaker does !

It’s odd because the last 7 years or so there has not been any barred perch between Palos Verdes and the Redondo Beach Pier. They are north of King Harbor in Hermosa and south of PV but not in between. No one has a good answer why.

So I guess I’m lucky there’s no bait stealers where I fish 😀

That's a nice session. Those smaller beans are fighters, more fun than a large perch IMO.

Did see a large one cruising the skinny water at PB few days ago. Now if only the sc's would show up.
