A nice, fresh introduction

After a good year of re-learning the game after about 20 years out, I decided to take the spotty skills I’ve built up to a small local lake before (and during) the storm this week. With almost no largemouth experience as a kid, I was hoping the time I’ve spent consuming YouTube, SDFish and other freshwater content might help me get over the line and find some success. I’ll mostly chalk it up to luck for now, but I was stoked to find a few bass willing to enjoy a nice stickbait. The largemouth experience is definitely a different one! The subtle eat, the extra weight on the end of the line, and the awesome aerial displays.

I live and work a lot closer to spottie territory in North County, but look forward to adding in some more freshwater fishing over the next few months.

As a long time lurker, I look forward to enjoying many more stories here, and I’ll hopefully add a few of my own when I can!

Thanks for sharing with us and great pics also.
We look forward to seeing more fish reports from you as the bass fishing should start even getting better in the coming months. Tight lines @Osidecoffee :-)

Thanks everyone! We’ll see how well I can do balancing the surf, lagoons, and freshwater over spring and summer. Hopefully I can have a little success at each of them! It feels like I could easily spread myself too thin and lose a good handle on the bite in all three areas haha, but we are definitely lucky being able to have so many options!

Nope, not Guajome. But gotta try it out there one of these mornings just to see if anything’s around…

Feel free to DM if you want 👍

And only hesitant to directly name the spot since shorepounding feels a little helpless at times, in terms of the amount of spots available…

I'm sure you will do a better job managing both, more so than I have. Hopefully, you can tell me soon how to balance both ;) I too like fresh and saltwater fishing. I find that trying to do both is a lot more work. Maintaining 2 sets of gear, to sets of tackle and 2 boats keeps me working on things more than using them (mostly the boats). Maybe I should just pound the shore? I have to admit, 80% plus of my fishing time is in the salt. I have spread myself too thin and now find myself just maintaining and not using =( It's getting to the point that I am contemplating selling the Skeeter and just fishing the Grady. I think I'm starting to sound like a complainer, so Ill stop now.

I really enjoy coming on this website and checking out the post. Much more than the big Saltwater Forum (you know which one I'm talking about). The crowd on here is much more friendly and tightknit. I am very appreciative for all the post, knowledge and advice that the Members offer up on SD Fish. Thank you too for you post!

Congratulations on the nice fish you landed. I'm sure there are many more where that came from.

I’m very fortunate to have some flexibility at work, and to have a few of the saltwater lagoons up here in Carlsbad just a few minutes away, so the majority of my time has been spent shorepounding there before work or on a long lunch break. Most of my sessions are in about an hour and a half chunks, so it can definitely be a grind when I lose the bite. Surf fishing has been a little harder to manage with all the cleanup and extra prep with the sand but I’m definitely looking forward to the sand crabs coming back, and spending more time with a lucky craft this year.

And as you mentioned, it’s nice to see such a solid set of regulars in a group like this!
