El Capitan Feb 8 report

Hello all,
Well I always say a plan is a list of things that won't happen. Was thinking about going to Hodges but on the way, went to El Cap instead. It's a commitment, because it's an hour away versus 10 minutes.
It was a good move. Got out at about 0700, and the water was 54F with a light wind. It was cold, but not bitter. Stayed in the south end while all the boats raced north. Saw a couple jumpers early and threw the tackle box at them but nothing happening. So I rethought my plan and decided to calibrate my compass on the depth finder and turn on Panoptix. Spent about 20 minutes playing with buttons and messing up everything, but I actually learned a lot, so that's not wasted time. Compass points in the right direction now.
Saw that there were fish somewhere around 8 feet down in a couple spots which is probably 10-15 off the shore line. Turned off the Panoptix and started working a PC3 green craw along that depth. Fished to 1030 and got 6 fish. One nice one, one reasonable one and 4 sample size fish. The day warmed up and was sunny, wind hadn't picked up at 1100 and water warmed to 55F at the surface. Have fun out there, spring is coming.
