Murray 2/4 The Redemption Tour?

I got on the lake at 8 am with trepid hope in my heart, tied a little 2" crankbait on my BFS combo and kicked out with a silent humble prayer to the fishing gods. About 20 minutes in I felt a bump and low and behold...A FISH! I have to tell you I got far too excited over a panfish, but after the back to back skunks it felt pretty good to get the skunky-monkey off me back. I mean a couple of Bluegill tugs are better than no tugs at all right?
I resigned myself to a panfish day when a few chunky clones decided that my crank might indeed be tasty... Hey they weren't big but I'm not complaining. Small fish are ok after the last couple of outings. A little slice of paradise when nothing else bites you know? Little bass and panfish all day would do just fine...when all of a sudden wham zing, the BFS drag began singing and the rod bent over. A nice fight later and I landed a 7.4 pound bucket mouth
Evidently all I had to do to get back in the fishing gods good graces was to eat a bit of humble pie, and post a confession on the SD fishing forum this morning. Go figure.
Tight lines all

Well, Dan, I would also like to confess. Now where's my fish? Ahahha. Congratulations and thanks for lifting the skunk for all of us, I hope. Nice work.

Yeah the crankbait is bigger than their mouths. I think only the bigger ones will hit it.

It's funny the biggest 2 fish I've seen/heard of coming out of Murray so far in 2025 (dfish at 8.6 and mine at 7.4) have both come on little baits and BFS gear.
BFS bass fishing is a little different than traditional bait finesse in that they throw stuff as little as 1 gram. While my gear is capable of casting pretty light weights, most of the jigs and baits I throw are in the 1/8th to 3/16th oz. range. Still pretty small by most traditional bass fishing standards.
If you guys haven't tried it yet, I'd really encourage you to give it a shot. It really is a ton of fun, and you can get a pretty nice, capable set up fairly cheap these days.
