1st day on the water for 2025

The last couple of fishing sessions up here in the great frozen northern prairie ended 2024 with a solid skunk. Luckily, lots of water in Flaming Gorge is still unfettered by pesky sheets of ice, so yesterday I went out for my first fishing trip of the new year. Weather was nice, no wind, partly sunny and high temps in the mid 40s. It was a very slow day, but I managed two, and one of them was another trophy sized fish. Not a new PB, but measuring 32 inches and weighing 10.8 pounds ain't half bad. That's 3 trophy sized fish in about a month's span, and 5 in the span of a year. I know that 20 plus fish will turn up on my line some time this year.

That trout is AMAZING!!! Wow, for the first day
of the New Year, that is a great start. I have
never caught a trout that big and bet that
it was as exciting as heck landing it. Great
job and thanks for sharing your adventures.
3 trophy size fish in a month…..WOW!
Tight lines and Best Wishes Always!

Yes. Didn't have much use for them in California, but half ounce spoons are the staple for big trout up here. Krocodile style are some of my favorites.

That’s an incredible way to kick off the new year. Even with a slow day, landing a 32-inch, 10.8-pound trophy is no small feat, what a beauty. Three trophies in a month and five in a year is an impressive streak. With your dedication and skill, I have no doubt that a 20+ pounder is on the horizon.
