Caught this off quivira point this morning. Is it a brown or a gopher rockfish?

Not sure the exact kind, but rockfish from shore in the bays is cool!

Might be a hybrid between 2 types or a mutation. Are those light splotches natural coloring or sores on the side of the fish?
Google will search by image if you want to try that.

My bet would be Brown rockfish . i have caught a few in very shallow water IE the surf , but not inside the bay . Cool catch

It's a Brown Rockfish, the brown spot on the top of the gill plate helps identify it.
