Also got a grub mold and made some shrimp colored units. For scale, right is a Yamamoto 4 in. grub, and left is Gotfish's cow manure special (may be a 3 in from Lockett Lures).

**edit**there is a particular alchemy that results in the grub having yellow on one side and orange on the other side of the tail. ...the visual is insane when it's swimming....haven't sorted it out how to achieve it consistently.... yet.

Will probably have to mess around with different plastic hardness so the spotties don't shred it too fast. As if.

Pinkish orange back with a clear belly would match ghost shrimp. Not that spotties are all that picky though.

I have fished red/white and pink/white grubs. Never did as well on them as on other colors although they still catch fish. Sometimes it seems that colors that blend into the bottom background (brown, green, clear) work better, maybe being harder to see fools the fish better. I have caught a lot of spotties on transparent gold grubs that I got bags of from a Mr. Twister closeout sale years ago. Assuming spotties don't have blue cones (largemouth bass do not), transparent gold would look mostly clear.

The guy who wrote the book on spotty fishing swore that chartreuse belly and gold back was the best color.

Went to the library this morning. Carlsbad doesn’t have the book at either branch. Would appreciate any other recommendations.
