It's been a while since I've posted an actual fish report of my own so I thought I would finally share one.

Went to Otay last Sat. Got there at 6:15am.

Cold in the morning (46 degrees) but Had a very nice sunrise.

It turned out to be a was nice day over all. Got up in the 60s

Did the usual. Trolled around in Harvey's for crappies or bluegills. The algae is really bad. It kept collecting on the lines, jig and split shots. Had to reel in every few minutes to clean the crap off. That wasn't fun. It was slow until about 9. Definitely not an early bite. Things picked up a little after that.

I remembered Dannicus last year saying how good the bluegill bite was on a crankbait. So I tried one and boy was he was on the money. Pretty crazy. They would hit a crankbait before a jig or worm but it was definitely the case. Everyone I caught (15) was on a crank.

Finish the day about noonish with some nice slabs to get my grub on!

Tight Lines!

Here's the sink shot. I wasn't in the mood to clean whole lot so I released way more than I caught.

Congrats you worked it out, especially on cranks, what size were the cranks?

Here's the crank that did the damaged (silver/black) The gold one didn't get touched for whatever reason. Guess they are 2 inches. 3 in with the bill.

I noticed you hook your cranks on your eyelets, I used to do that till after doing that for awhile my eyelets started falling out, then I saw these small clips from Cal Coast they snap on and a couple of ways you can clip your cranks, drop-shot, just about any lure they’re great as a lot of my poles are now equipped with them I highly recommend them, I’ve used them in other ways too.

I went back for some more panfish action last Saturday.

Very nice day on the water. Wasn't really cold in the morning. Maybe 50 degrees. The water is still full of algae tho. Maybe even worst than the last trip. Only thing which was weird is that it didn't stick to the lines and split shots and jigs like before. That was a good thing.
IMG_20241207_064425446_HDR.jpg

Hunted around for some crappies but couldn't really locate any willing participants. The Gills on the other hand were more than willing. Very aggressive for this time of the year.

Yep... still going for the crack baits. Crazy right? Except this time even the gold one was getting some love. I caught more on it than the silver one this time around. Only 1 on a jig. Go figure.

I got several "doubles" this time as well. A crappie finally showed itself when it was time to go.

Ended the day around Noon again with more good eats!

Nice catch, were you trolling the cranks or casting and retrieving?

Went back again. Water is clearing some. Bluegills slowed down a bit but the crappie bite picked up some.

Here's Dave with some nice ones. 8 total
IMG_20241116_132343114.jpg
Nice chunky Gill I caught. Got 9 total.
IMG_20241214_083531394.jpg
Surprise of the day was the bass bite. Couldn't keep them off the line. They were hitting both jigs and crankbaits.

Caught 5 total with this one being the nicest

Most likely I'll be back again this Saturday.

Roy - thanks for keeping us in the loop on the Otay slabs! As usual for Nov/Dec, I'm endlessly fascinated with epic 'sight fishing' for trout around here and having a blast catching them on the tiny flies and jigs on the ultralight while stalking the shorelines. Might surprise you at Otay one day here in the Hobie 😁

Hey Larry!

Dave asked about you last week. Said just that. He's probably sight fishing trout @ Jennings. We will be back at it tomorrow.

Still got room up front for ya! ;)

Nice catches😁 I'm still picking them up on little crankbaits at Otay and Murray when I fish them. As a bonus I occasionally bick up a respectable bass or two as well! Keep em coming mate!
