It was a relatively slow day at the Murr, but I did manage 4 bucketmouths with the one pictured being the largest at 3.7.
But the news is that the lake is supposed to get its first trout stock of the year at the end of next week (per the guy in the tackle shop). So all you big swim bait guys better pull your gear outta mothballs and show us BFS guys how real men fish
See you out there and tight lines guys!

Shhhhhhh! You’re supposed to keep all trout plant news under wraps or otherwise
@Mcfish may even come down here from Ramona and throw something bigger than 3 inches.

My local pond just got a trout stocking, and while there aren't too many bass that are big enough to eat trout, they're out there.
The funniest part is that all throughout the year, you have these big swimbait guys chucking their baits, talking about how many 'follows' they got that day. I've never seen them catch a fish.
The day of the trout stock, you'd think they'd be giddy as a pig in #hit, throwing their big baits. But nope! They grabbed their spinning gear and were stalking the stockers for the entire week.

Yeah, but don't you think if you're a self proclaimed "24/7/365 I ONLY FISH SWIMBAITS" person, you'd want to throw swimbaits right after a stock?
Apparently the allure of a truck trout is too much for these guys to put their broomsticks away for the week.

Grown ass men!
They spend more time trying to one up each other on how expensive their "Roman Mother" is, or how they sourced a swimbait rod from Japan that cost them a mortgage payment, than actually catching anything.
I"m telling you, they count their success in how many 'follows' they got during a session.

These days my stoutest rod is a Lews custom 7' medium heavy speed stick. I have also have 1 medium, 1 medium light, 1 light, and 1 ultralight. Inevitably I find myself using the 3 lightest rods the most, all of which have Ark Gravity BFS reels on them.
After having fished with lighter tackle so much over the past couple of years, when I pick up the medium heavy rod it feels like the proverbial broomstick lol. However, my largest fish of the year was only 8.7 lbs - caught on the Cashion medium light rod and Ark reel, so I am aware that the big bait guys are likely to kick my butt when it comes to bigger bass.
Still, I'd wager that I'd hold my own in total weight and numbers of fish caught though

Hmm. Not the guys I know… but I don’t know everyone. I’ve only seen youngsters go ape$hi+ on the trout and mini jigs at the ramps during the stock.
I can picture that with new “rich kid E bike” generation these days.

Hey, I go after stocker trout when time and timing permits. I work from home, so any excuse to leave the house during lunch times helps, and my local pond is 10 minutes away, which is why I'm pretty much there everyday.
But I'm not one of those who pigeonholes themselves by only using one technique, and by only chasing one species. Much props to those that do, but I like to diversify my bonds. The amount of the "I only throw big baits" people that I meet is astounding.
Also, does anybody else have 'stocker trout crews" that show up only after trout stocks and you'll never see them any other time? They say they pour their own baits, which is literally just a mini jig mold that you can get at Jann's Netcraft, and claim to be "Brand Ambassadors" for Phenix. And it's always Phenix Rods.
"I get 40% off, bro."
Problem is, they will crowd out kids and families who are there just to have fun, to spend most time on their phone taking glory shots, checking their likes, hash tagging their products, and trying to be experts at catching....stocker trout.
This YouTube/Tiktok generation is pretty interesting, especially when it's not kids, but adults using social media to try to make a few bucks.

I personally think it's all ok. Different strokes for different folks. Truthfully I haven't seen anyone push any kids or families out of the way. In fact 99.9% of the time I have seen people help each other out. Especially when it comes to kids.
I think anglers overall are a pretty kind and courteous bunch, and there really isn't a right or wrong way to have fun doing what you like, as long as it doesn't interfere with others and respects the wonderful nature and fisheries we all enjoy! Their way and mine may differ but that's ok with me.
