Miramar let me down

I was so excited to fish Lake Miramar this morning. I have a really awesome history with this lake and was super excited to get back to it. I had heard nothing but good things about it lately and talked to several people who had fished it in the last couple of weeks Who said it was on fire. Upon arriving, I realized that the boat launch was conned off with a no entry sign and that the lake looked rather low. I found out that in the last couple of days they lowered it by 4 to 6 feet and that the bite had died completely. After gearing up and heading out on the water still being super excited, I traveled all the way around the lake with not even a hit. After meeting up with several people who finished there regularly and said that last week it was great and today it was horrible. I was very sad. I ended up heading over to El Capitan after that to get one tiny fish, but met a ton of great people throughout the day and both lakes all in all a fun day. I don’t have any great fishing shots to show you, but I have a full tummy a full heart And I’m ready for the next adventure. Cheers!

For years and years, Miramar has been a mystery as far as what the water level will be each week or two. It fluctuates so much that I used to go up there on a weekend just to check the water level so that I would not get a big surprise and not be able to launch my boat a few days later. Even just a couple years ago,I stopped by the lake on a Sunday and the water level was low so I decided to take my kayak up there a day later. The water level was even lower but I could still launch at the ramp, and then I came back to go home, the water level go so low that the lip at he end of the cement ramp was exposed. One of the workers had to help me guide my kayak over the rocks because I could not access the actual ramp. It was freaking crazy!
Anyway, there was a great bite for over a few months up there, but on my last trip there at the end of September it was pretty tough as I worked really hard and only landed 9 bass with most of them being dinks(except one just over 3 lbs). It was quite a shock compared to my previous trips and I guess it kind of kept me from going back up there. Sorry to hear about your timing and the water being lowered, and it no doubt affected the bite. At least you got to fish 2 lakes, caught a bass and had fun meeting some nice people. I am pretty sure that your next fishing trip you will be catching bass with a vengence and a fun video to share with us which are always entertaining.
Thanks for sharing and tight lines always.

Me too!!! I rolled into Miramar on Friday morning to see the water low, knowing that the ramp wouldn't be open. It wasn’t. So me and my buddy went to Murray and I managed 3 small keepers. But I checked the city website page for Miramar. Didn’t even say anything about the ramp being closed! Lame! I want to fish Miramar Monday but not sure anymore? Anyone know anyplace I can call to figure it out?
Sorry for not posting on here that it was closed!

I almost went there just to look on Friday but didn’t. Oh well that’s why it’s called fishing not catching.

Years ago when I still fished in a club we held a tournament there. Launch was a piece of cake but when we went to pull out the water had fallen so drastically we had to drop the trailer tires off the bottom of the ramp in order to get our boats out! its crazy how fast the water there can fluctuate!

Sadly, in recent years, it’s almost like you have to drive up there the day before or two days before you go fishing just to make sure the launch ramp is open. It is a waste of gas but at least you know. I just found it easier to take my kayak when I have gone up there so I don’t have to worry.

The sad thing is that I almost did that and then thought, "I'm sure it'll be fine..." Famous words.

I never take my boat to Miramar..you never know when they're going to screw with the water level..only float tube it now! The City does a lousy job at keeping fishermen informed about conditions!
