9/26-Where else…but Murray

Greeted with cool conditions in the morning at Murray.
Brrrrrrr!
Around 9:00, the bass were starting to chase shad across the surface. Mixed it up with lots of reaction type baits and bottomline the clones were on the chew. Fished for a while next to my buddy Larry as bass were exploding on the surface around us and always fun to both be landing bass. I wasted lots of time trying to capture the surface action on video instead of taking advantage of the bass that were biting. It was pretty crazy! Later ran into
@Dannicus who is always a pleasure to chat with who was working the surface with more of his small cool looking and bass catching topwater baits. I told him I originally did not want to post a report but the bass bite was pretty darn good, so what the heck.
To keep it brief, I lost count after landing over a dozen bass, but again most of them were clones and small ones.
Most of you are probably tired of my Murray reports, but at least it didn't turn into a novel....just more of a short story....
5 shad came out next to the boat and still
had one in his throat after hitting my jerk bait
Still action after the sun came out...but mostly small ones..
like this....ha ha

Nice seeing you as always brother! I for one am not tired of your posts at all and very much appreciate them. Keep em coming!
Today was my first day fishing this this week. Usually I have at least two days in by Thursday, but was busy dealing with some health issues with my "wife". She's much better now
You did better than me today Vinny. I caught maybe 10, but the biggest was a 2 pound clone. All the rest were sub 1 pound dinks. After the first several dinks I switched over to more full sized topwater but then couldn't get bit at all. Last week was feast, today...famine.
I think I'll try El Cap tomorrow, see how the bite is there. We are getting into that fall transition time, so I'm going to have to do a little work finding patterns. But hey! For me that challenge is part of the fun.

Yeah, but I made close to a million casts....well it felt like a million, but actually probably a few hundred. I was doing pretty well where I was in San Carlos at and just picked up a few when I came up the lake where you were fishing. Funny, because my last trip I caught all of my bass in that area where you were. Bass do move around but there is so much shad in the water, that there meals everywhere. Anyway, glad your wife is feeling better and tight lines to you at El Cap.

Here is a funny observation......when a fish report says the bass are biting really well, many fishermen used to get upset and
say you are ruining the fishing at the lake as the lake now with be jam packed, elbow to elbow, and just overflowing with fishermen.
Guess that does not hold ground at Lake Murray. Sure 2 or 3 other boats on the water seems like a crowd, but come on....the
lake is never overrun with boats, kayaks and float tubes where the fishing is ruined because of a fishing post. I fish there enough
to know that on the weekends, there may be more fishing traffic and for some reason on Fridays there seems to be a few more
guys on the water, but the majority of the time, the fishermen and pretty sparse.
Now, I must admit that my recent post may have actually worked on attracting one guy.
Rumors are that
@Mcfish drove all the way down from Ramona to fish.
Anyway.....tight lines to all who fish Murray (and sorry if I post too often from there.)

That is for sure!
Just when I got old enough to finally get a slight deal with a senior permit, they raised
everything after I just started to enjoy the nice discount.

It’s $17 for a senior to launch a boat and a permit that used to be $11
And $12 for a senior to fish out of a kayak which used to be $6.
And even more costly for everyone else who is not a senior. I guess that the prices have affected the amount of people fishing or they are fishing still, but less than they used to. So you probably hit it on the head as far as things not being as cheap as they used to be as a reason why not that many people are out fishing. That’s why I often fish out of my kayak more.

It’s hit me….another reason, where I live, everyone is on Ca “fair” plan for fire insurance. In the last two years it has gone from $700 to $3500. My neighbor got hit for 8k and my buddy down the road 12k just for basic home coverage per year. Absolutely wild. It has definitely affected my fishing. Boat has not splashed in quite some time. Actually getting ready to sell her. Thank goodness for loveland

Oh my gosh, I could go on and on about all the BS with homeowners insurance. It is absolutely ridiculous especially out here in California where they could jack the prices and there is nothing you can do. I’ve heard many nightmare stories specially out in East county/Alpine areas, etc. Maybe one day I’ll post something in the lounge and we could all share our nightmare stories about homeowners insurance prices going through the roof.

I dealt with backlash a few years ago after posting a good day I had on swim baits at El Cap. Had a guy PM me and complain that he had been working on that bite for weeks and my post was going to ruin “his” bite

.
As I told him, with maybe the exception of the spot I was fishing early this year at San V, I could pretty much tell everyone exactly where, what, and how I was fishing when I caught fish and they would have a hard time duplicating it. It goes both ways as well. I can take someone’s information about a hot bite, hot spot, or hot bait, and go out and not get crap because I most likely wouldn’t be able duplicate whatever you were doing, or what angle you were fishing a spot. Wouldn’t be able to do the same retrieve type or speed. There are so many other factors that go into nailing down a pattern than the where, what, and how.
The last few weeks at El Cap I have got fish on deep crankbaits and swimming jigs really shallow. Anyone going out there trying to duplicate what I was doing isn’t going to fish with the same retrieve speed, or at the same angle, or depth, that I was. Bottom line to me is that people come on forums like this to swap stories and pass along information to HELP people. If the general information helps, awesome! But no one is going to ruin anyone’s “secret bite” by passing on information about their trip. News flash, there are no secret spots or secret bites on our little lakes.
Enjoy the time on the water, share what you want, take away what you can from other reports. Keep your line wet and have fun!

Looks like murray is biting ...time to head there

..... awesome monster you got there brotha..... I have heard of people getting upset when post what lure color plastics etc.to use.... All I have to say is people have different skills for fishing I enjoy throwing a 9in worm and lizards ... a lot of people hate those 2 cause they simply can't use them i know it sounds funny but it's true... I have fish with friends that are huge swimbait guys (200-300$ a swimbait) and they can't use the plastics unless it's a senko or a weightless mellow ... I personally enjoy reading reports with lures and colors and also who doesn't like a little competition on the water... I'll be seeing you in murray very soon my friend now that barrett is close

If you look at a number of my posts even from years ago, you’ll see I like to mix it up with different type baits to catch bass with. My problem is that after a while I put things away and realize I should be bringing those back out because suddenly they get buried in the bottom of a tackle bag or box for a long, long time and I forget about them. Then out of the blue, I’ll start throwing them again. Bass fishing is always fun, especially when you try different things and they work.
Tight lines
