So, like, I've got a float tube. No longer tied to the shores, which hey great, my flabby butt isn't up to shorepounding like it used to be. But this brings a question regarding hitting the city lakes. I know no actual water contact, i.e. waders, but do I just need to grab the daily permit and good to go? Or am I going to have to shell out additionally for the tube. I know kayak and boat are extra, but haven't seen anything one way or another about tubes.

It varies. Some lakes it’s just a permit, others you pay both. I heard tubing at night is free…

I don't tube in freshwater very much..yet....but don't some lakes have a special requirement to have your tube washed down/checked for quagga? is there a fee for this, or a body cavity search?

Only place I experienced a washdown fee locally is cuyamaca. Inspections are free….but are they really? They get you one way or the other

FYI, unless things have changed, the inspectors at Morena will turn you away for even dirt on your tube, claiming it might be quagga eggs or larvae. And make sure your tube is bone dry as well if you go there.

Barrett is by Ticketmaster, considerably more than $11 but better fishing too.

Some of the non city lakes do not allow tubes so check beforehand.

No problem with being that guy. I used to night stalk the bays weekly. I also live a lot closer to Murray than I do the bays though.

Also, I seem to recall a Shorepounders some years ago in late winter that had you wading in shorts in mission bay with it being maybe 45 degrees ambient. So I question whether or not you, at least, actually care about warm water lol

Except Morena. I couldn’t believe it. They charge the same price as a boat launch for the tube. Oh how times have changed….

That's true!! It surprised me too!

That’s relatively new. They used to never charge for tube launch. Or parking fee.

I fish all the San Diego lakes regularly. (The ones that allow float tubes). There is no launch fee for float tubes at any of them with the exception of Morena as @camobass pointed out. Hopefully that remains the case lol.

I'm a senior so I get a discounted permit and no parking fee lol.

I just emailed them, can’t hurt… mentioned they are the only lake in the county (they are a different entity, sdparks) that charges a tube launch fee and that it’s the same price as a boat launch which doesn’t make any sense.
