San Vicente Late Summer Bass

San Vicente Reservoir: Late Summer Bass Fishing

Do you know where I haven’t been in a long time? San Vicente. I was thinking about where the fish and I realized I hadn’t been there since they raised the lake. So I got out on the water first thing and realized I’m kind of fishing a new lake again. It was super windy when I started out and I tried some top water and missed one immediately on a popper, that was a good fish. No more on top after that. As I came to the trees rounding the first corner, I saw something very strange. It took me a minute to realize what it was, and that was a fishing pole hanging in the trees in the water. I went and retrieved it, and it ended up being a nice rod and reel.

If you lost this rod and reel and can identify it I’m happy to give it back to you. I know what it’s like to lose a good rod and reel.

After that, I headed around the corner toward the Aquaduct arm and ended up getting a couple fish on soft stick baits. I headed into the Aquaduct arm, got another one there and then was going to the toll road arm when I decided on a whim to pitch a jig up against the shore as I was motoring to my new spot. I ended up getting three fish within 100 yards on the jig and realized I’ve been using the wrong bait. I rounded the corner into the toll road and ended up getting several more that way the biggest being two of them just under 3 pounds. It was a fun day out on a lake that I hadn’t been to in a long time and a nice change, if you want to check out for more details and information feel free. I ended up with 9 keeper bass, 1 small redear and several dink bass.

Cheers! See you on the water!

Very nice!
Always enjoy the videos and watching you on the rougher water the first 20 seconds, I ran to the medicine chest to take some
Dramamine, but put it away as the water calmed down. Always feel like I am fishing right there with you and great to
see your post and hopefully there are many more videos on the way and of course many more bass for you to catch.
Tight lines always. :-)

Thanks Vinny! It was rough for the first bit but then calmed down until the end where the wakeboard boats made it sloppy. Glad you enjoyed it. I’ve got a Barrett video cued up for next week with my biggest bass of the year. 6.88lbs. Then the filling week will be El Cap with topwater and jigs. Both of those trips were over the weekend. Cheers!

Great video as always Chris and super job with the jig. San V is not known for being a good jig fishing lake but like you I love throwing a jig and have had some success especially on back side of island with one. Great looking rod btw. Hope to see you out on the water my friend and thanks again for quality video.

Thanks! I try to save battery and use nature whenever I can! As long as the wind is going in my direction I can double my tube speed.

Much appreciated. I like the island also but was reprimanded by the police last time I went out there. They said no tubes allowed further than 100 feet off shore. I told them I didn't know that and asked politely where this policy was posted so that I could comply with all regs. Apparently its posted somewhere near the concession area. I still have not seen it though.

As for the rod I like it but I do like the Z-Bone better than the Nitranium. I light the weight better and just the feel of the rod but that is totally person preferences. See you on the water soon! Cheers!

Float tubing around the island will get you torpedoed by a wakeboarder...

I've been out on the Big Bay on the 4th of July in my tube...stupidly. It was like fishing in a washing machine. Who needs amusement park rides?

It’s funny I didn’t even know there was a rule about how far you could go in a float tube at San V. I guess that’s why you never see guys way out there.
Not having a float tube, I just figured guys didn’t wanna go far out in the lake from where they launch. See… you learn something every day.

Nice I check it out. Surprised it did not come up in YouTube notifications, as I am a subscriber?

For some reason I feel like going out and grabbing some Stouts? Just can't figure out why?

Nice fish! Seems like Barrett is producing more fish over 5 pounds than most the other SD lakes?
