Got out on the water at the usual time with Chuck and Steve. Water was a little cooler at 77F, it warmed to 81F by the time I left. Air was warm and a slight breeze. I think we can all start sleeping in, since it seems like very little happens in the dark, which it is until almost 0600.

Picked up a few fish on the popper on the way to Becky's and then wandered shoreline catching a few more on the pompadour. But then that seemed to quiet down. We headed toward the back of Hauser and I ran into Mike and we spent some time in the shallows with ultralights. There were a few decent fish mixed in but we caught a lot of 9-12 inch fish. Moved further into Hauser and found a spot where there were shore fish and some busting. Really couldn't get the busters, they rise up and are gone before you can get them. Mixed it up with Rapala and Megabass X-75. The advantage for me went to the Rapala, but that's me.

Basically everything worked pretty well for each of us. Chuck got a bunch on topwater. Steve did great on Senkos and Mike was doing well with a new Megabass lure. Another friend was in a boat and they were also doing well on a mix of lures.

Wind never got too bad. It was warm, but not too bad when I got out around 1230.
My fish of the day

This is typical of the ones around the sample size fish.

Stunning day out there yesterday on my super tube. Picked up more than 1 fish trolling from one place to another,,,,,,they weighed in at 2.5 to over 3 lbs!! I cannot remember the number of years it has been where the busters averaged that size.

Thanks Dave for allowing me to fish so close to your proximity , It's not something I ever usually do. Most fun I've had fishing the surface baits in many years. I can't remember fishing the hard baits for 8 hrs straight. Usually I jump to plastics after the first hour or so. There were so many bigger followers chasing the subsurface walking bait that I started throwing a shad colored shakey head at them and ended up with this one. 5.89lbs.

I had a great time fishing with you. Those big ones following the sample size were nice when they'd attack ahead of the little guys. That 5.89 is a really nice fish. I'm thinking about plastics in the early hours since topwater has been slower in the early hours. Thanks for the tip on the shakey head, that's a great idea when there's a school of smaller fish. I might do a midsize swimbait too.

We have to get out there again, before the season closes. I need another day with a delicious beverage. :)
