12x3 private island

Spent the weekend on my gayak. Covering serious miles ither n' yon. Trying for halis and veens mostly. Not too much success there. Lost a big one this morning in some rich person's backyard.

Spotties bit constantly on cranks, chatters, and worms.

Heard a noise hit my kayak and then splash while fishing ( Clink clink splash splash) wtf? Was that noise? Old faithful reel falling apart again. Too bad the parts are at the bottom of the bay.

Nice. More range than the tube for sure. That first pic is sweet.

Awesome pics, makes me sad I didn’t get out there yesterday. Old reels are the best, but an upgrade will be a fresh stoker. Thanks for showing your lures too. I’m always interested in what people are throwing that’s different from me.

Lemon lime fat free shad was silly for spotties, which was fun even though I was trying for halis. Throw it far, use rod angles to keep it just off the bottom, when it starts climbing back to the boat, stroke it and pause it ever few feet. Boom!

Put a new nut on the 20 year old reel. Didnt have a retainer cap so i put some glue on it, ill keep using it till i cant. Lol

That reel is in my arsenal too. Definitely an old faithful… I’ve come across parts on eBay here and there over the years..

Thanks for the report. Sadness on the loss of a friend. Burial at sea I guess. Cheers!

A calcutta handle will fit that thing and can be ordered directly from Shimano. I have 3, 200bs and love em to death. The one that I actually fish has caught 15lb yellowtail no issue. Took me to the knot two times but the reel held up. That reel also fell into the harbor once and sat there in the mud for three days before I got it back. They are lifetime reels for sure. Same with my bantam 100. Only issue with the older bantams is the pinion likes to go out especially if you are fishing baits with allot of resistance like deep diving cranks. But that's when you go on ebay and find a shiddy one and cannibalize it for parts.

Take a tiny piece of thin plastic, like from a bottle or something and make a shim to make it just hair taller. Usually works.

I just glued the nut in place. This reel has been ready to trash for years already. Still going tho...

Heard a lot in 2004: "Fishing from a pedal kayak is cheating!"😂
