Grove Fire

I was fishing Henshaw on Wed when a storm rolled into the valley around noon. Lightning and thunder were going off in the distance and we made our way back towards the car to be safe, but as it approached from the south, the wind blew it east and we were able to keep fishing with lightning strikes in the background. Pretty surreal experience, being in 90 degree sunny weather with a patch of storm a few miles away. Around 2pm, a FD helicopter circled the lake and dropped into retrieve water, and then we saw the smoke off in the distance.

Fishing was mediocre and significantly slowed when the storm rolled in. I hope the fire gets contained and everyone stays safe.

Pretty awesome for you to see it unfold. 25% contained as of now

We had a lightning strike at the end of our dirt road about 25 years ago that started a fire followed by a giant down pour about 20 minutes later that extinguished the fire.

Dude, gnarley! I was at Barrett a few years ago and there was a late summer thunder storm that day. I could feel the static electricity on the aluminum boat from the nearby lightning… kept ripping bass with our high modulus carbon fiber fly rods of course! Yeah sounds like Henshaw went back to its normal mediocre carp fishing that still draws me back because carp on a fly rod are awesome!

We caught 5 each, which really isn't mediocre, but last week I got 13 in just 2 hours. The flats are receding , but there still is a lot area. I got there late around 9, but The guy I fished with was there early and said they were all in the shallows. The storm front probably pushed them into deep water.

I'll be going often until is really dies down. BTW, the summer hours are open everyday at 7am.
