Barrett Report July 20

Got out nice and early as usual. Air was warm and so was the water ( 81F) with a light normal wind, instead of the annoying strong early winds that have been there.
Pedaled over to Becky’s cove and found the usual friends there with the usual popper. Took a page from Pourboy’s last video and decided to work on using a jig. It’s not my go-to lure, but I am glad I did. I spent the next hour getting fish often and exactly like he did. On the drop or the first bounce. After that, you would be cleaning the goo off the lure. At that point, some surface activity caught my eye, like it does.
Played around chasing busters in Hauser, but kept pedaling to the back of Hauser. I think it’s called Echo Cove, but it’s the cove on the south side halfway down. I started throwing an old favorite, a #7 floating Rapala. That was the lure to use. Got rewarded with consistent fish for the rest of the day. Especially fun to use on the BFS rod, even a 2 pound fish is somewhat of a battle. Got to battle a 5 pounder on that setup, it was so much fun for me, I think the fish may have a different opinion.
Wind never got too bad, I was off the water around 1130. It was toasty though. My truck claimed 100F. I did drink 6 bottles of water, that I never had to get rid of, so that says something about the heat. Pack more water than you think you need.
