Barrett Report July 14

Well, it started out kind of rough, but it ended up being a good day. At zero dark thirty, there was a howling wind from the south south east. I tried my usual places but the wind was so strong that I would fly by anything perpendicular and into anything parallel before a proper cast was complete. PondProwler619 met me when the sun was up and I was finally getting some fish in Hauser on a crawler. We thought about heading over to Pine in hopes that the wind wouldn't be as much of a factor. On the way we pounded a few "calm" spots and he got some on a lizard. I got one small one on the popper I always seem to use. Wind is getting better and we start finding some busters. They aren't super cooperative but then the wind stopped. Dead calm. We chased fish around on the way to Pine and had fun there, worked our way back to Becky's cove and caught open water fish on the way to the shore line. I had good luck with the popper and the Zara Spook. Not one fish even sniffed the whopper plopper today. Also, none were interested in any X80 jerkbait.
Had a cool nature moment when Ish spotted three deer. So there is our nature moment of the day. He got pretty close to them, he has some great photos.
After that we headed to the middle of Hauser for the boils. Saw Jwall and Dan, chatted with them for bit, they were having a nice day too. We go back to the fish and Ish is getting good success with a mid depth crankbait. My fish were mostly on the spook. Big fish of the day for us was a 3# 9 ouncer. Wind came back up and it was a hassle getting back to Pigs to unload. Water temp got up to 82F and the lake seems clearer. Water is a little lower, maybe. I know they are still letting water out, but it didn't seem so drastic this trip. Have fun out there.
