May 2-Murray: Top of the Late Morning

Dang it!!! I have to tell you that I had a completed story ready to post and lost it by opening another window and not saving it as a draft.
After screaming several "special" words showing my frustration...here is the post and a lot shorter than the original which is good as many of you know most of my posts are a little wordy....ha ha(Waiting for a guaranteed comment by @mcfish)
Anyway, did not think about going fishing today but since I did not go over the weekend and yesterday, I quickly gathered my tackle
and loaded up my kayak and headed to Murray. I was off to a late start but wanted to give it a shot for a few hours this morning. I finally got on the water a little before 8 a.m. I was thinking of hitting the tulles, but saw some surface action off in the distance. I tossed a Sammy over near the action and was rewarded pretty quickly as a bass slammed it. A little while later I lost a bass on the jump on a Gunfish. I quickly tossed back in that area and landed a smaller bass. Surface was dead for a while and started tossing under spins and finally hooked up what felt like a nice bass and then line got slack. Did he break the line? Nope...the line came back with a curly cue at the end of it. Stupid me should have checked the knot better. The surface action was done when suddenly a bass started jumping and I quickly grabbed the rod with a Sammy on it and landed another topwater bass. Soon the winds came up and I Texas rigged a 7" worm(about 5 inches bigger than most worms @mcfish uses) and after several casts I landed a bass and left pretty quickly after that. Never even made it to the tulles.
Hopefully there will be more and more topwater action as things start to warm up for the summer.

Good job, I knew you'd get some with the overcast weather! If that was the short version of your story, I'm terrified to know the long version....hahahaha!

The long version was about 8 more paragraphs longer...ha ha. Not really!
The weather was cool in the morning and only wished I got there earlier and not around 8.
I think it is going to be a pretty healthy bass this summer as the bass are fattening up on the shad.
My guess is I may see you down here more than your usual once or twice a year appearances ...ha ha
Tight lines buddy.

Thanks for the kind words @stringbean. I do really love to fish and being a guy who loves to talk a lot makes it very unusual when I have to write my post. Deb( my significant other) kids me often and asks if I am writing a novel when I am working on a post. I tend to give a lot of details and many have told me I give out too much information, but I don’t fish tournaments so I’m just out to have fun and helpful when I can. It’s great to have this site up and look forward to seeing and reading some of your posts.
Best wishes and tight lines always

It is still a Virgin. I hope to sell it one day for big bucks to you to use at Barrett...ha ha
I want to break it out of the box....but it looks so nice in there. :-)
Besides I have lots and lots of other topwater baits that have not touched the water in
a long time that are waiting for a chance. It's funny as I usually throw the same 3 topwater
baits( Sammy, IMA Skimmer and a Gunfish).

Hey @mcfish...the word around the lake through my many sources is there has been no sightings of you yet. Maybe you are planning a secret mission
to the lake on a Saturday to hide and blend in behind all the rental boats, pontoon boats, rental kayaks, small ocean boats and rental paddle boats and others in their own boats, kayaks and float tubes. I would not be there to see all of your hot spots....ha ha
Tight lines buddy....just messing with ya. :-)
