The past two weekends I've been going out with@Tubefly. I've been exclusively sight fishing for Carp, but Bill doesn't have the patience and vicinity-fishes with an indicator. I got four carp last week and six yesterday, and lost a whole bunch more. But more importantly, I had the most shots on goal I've ever had at Henshaw and that's what is important in my sadistic opinion. Most of the shots were bottom feeders, some 10 ft offshore completely submerged , some cruising right up to the bank with their backs exposed. One morning A scum line appeared and I was able to hook two on dry flies. Bill was also able to three Carp each weekend as two 24" cats, four crappie, four bluegill and over 20 bass, one over 20 in. The best area for me was about a mile south of the boat ramp.

Awesome man! I’ve been there when I didn’t see a single carp to throw flies at and other times they are practically crawling on the bank… that’s fishing I guess.

Yeah and I know it can be tough. I didn't even go at all last year, and I was kinda over it, but I got an invitation to ride along and it paid off. If it wasn't for the red tide, I might not have gone. I've also explored going south instead of north, and found an entry point off the 76 that'll make hiking to the east side a little easier.

I'm loving the new Google Photos feature that shows heatmaps of the GPS locations of your pictures. This is over both weeks, and I think I found a good stretch of shoreline. I have tomorrow off and the kids have summer camp, so I chances are I'll be back out there until conditions turn.

Nice work! Did you see any up top? If the hoppers were going to go off it should be happening in the next few weeks

For about an hour between 8-9AM on Sat, but they were just feeding in the scum, no hoppers. After 9, it heated up and the scum dissipated. I really hope the hatch goes off this year, and might alternate weekends between Henshaw and the surf.

What kind of gear are you guys using to fish for carp? I'm just getting into it have fished probably 30 hours and only two missed hooksets. Half or more of that time at Barrett! Starting to think I'm cursed haha

No, that's carp fly fishing for you. There's a reason they call them golden bonefish. For Henshaw, carp are small so I use a 6wt, 10ft leader, 10lb tippet, and size 10ish fly. But gear only matters once you hook one. There's a lot that goes into the presentation, and detecting the take. Lots of info online and in books. I recommend starting here.
