First time at El Cap

Post by tomnilll »

Well I have to say that I really liked my first trip to El Cap! Probably the nicest day weather wise in a long time and sometimes that means...not great fishing. But that was not the case. I don't have a boat (actually I do have a canoe, but that doesn't count) so I decided to hire a guide, what a great move on my part. Bruce Smith of (Basoutdoors.com) was the nicest, most helpful, and successful guide I have encountered. He had us on fish all day from the cold morning to the windy midday to the hot afternoon and fish all day everywhere we went. I took a buddy along who did not know anything about fishing, had only gone a couple times in his life and he caught 7 nice bass. I lost count (of course I did), but pretty close to 20 is a good number.

Pretty good sample...

1st fish of the day

Biggest (probably) of the day.

Thanks again Bruce!

Nice job! What did you catch them on? Any busting fish?

Wow, looks like a great day on the Cap. Looks more like San V wind than Cap!

No Busters. Caught them on a bit of everything. Spinnerbaits, soft plastics, underspins...etc. I think I could have thrown anything... ;)

It was definitely howling down there in the afternoon/evening yesterday. White caps when we pulled up to the lake about 345.

Saw fish in all 3 spawning stages yesterday. Pretty soon it’s gonna be time to throw topwater in the morning down there..
